He is not here, He is risen!

“He is not here; he has risen!” – Luke 24:6a

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. — Luke 24:1-12

Jesus, Thou art my righteousness,
For all my sins were Thine;
Thy death hath bought of God my peace,
Thy life hath made Him mine.  —Anon.

Dec. 20 – 26th/09

Ready or not, here it comes ~ it’s Christmas!

Christmas is a busy and exciting time – we prepare gifts for those we love and plan meals and special treats to share with family and friends – we spend more than we planned and eat more than we should but hopefully we do not forget the reason we celebrate – the gift of God – Jesus Christ – His only begotten Son – God manifest in flesh – the indescribable, unspeakable, gift – the Lamb of God.

He did not use a silvery box
Or paper green and red;
God laid His Christmas gift to me
Within a manger bed. —Prentice

As we make our preparations and plans, let us remember what it is we are celebrating – what Christmas is…and what it is not. I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a joyous celebration of Christ’s miraculous birth.

“It came without ribbons. It came without tags.
It came without packages, boxes or bags.
And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before.
‘What if Christmas,’ he thought, ‘doesn’t come from a store?’
What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?”

-Dr. Seuss

We are guilty and He is innocent

good-friday“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5 KJV

Wounded for me, wounded for me,
There on the cross He was wounded for me;
Gone my transgressions, and now I am free,
All because Jesus was wounded for me.
—Ovens

What a concept – that one who is innocent would take the punishment for the one who is guilty! Unheard of, unless you are God – the Son of God – the Lamb of God.

If you have watched the Passion of the Christ you see that the Jewish leaders pushed for the death of the one who claimed to be “King of the Jews” because of their stubborn hearts that would not believe that He was the Messiah – the movie is powerful but leaves the audience feeling like – if it wasn’t for those Jewish leaders, Christ would have never had to go to the cross – that is not why Christ went to the cross.

It was God’s plan. It was foretold. It wasn’t a mistake. God gave His only Son: “God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:17

“Jesus was given to you, and with the help of lawless people, you put him to death by nailing him to a cross. But this was God’s plan which he had made long ago; he knew this would happen. God raised Jesus from the dead and set him free from the pain of death, because death could not hold him.” — Acts 2:23-24

“The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life – only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.” — John 10:17, 18

The Lord Jesus Christ was innocent, spotless, had never sinned and because of His love for us, He suffered, shed His blood to cover our sins. He willing laid down His life for us, to save us from the penalty of our sins. He was innocent – we were the guilty ones.

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” — Ephesians 1:7

Oswald Chambers – My Utmost For His Highest

“The death of Jesus Christ is the fulfillment in history of the very mind and intent of God. There is no place for seeing Jesus Christ as a martyr. His death was not something that happened to Him— something that might have been prevented. His death was the very reason He came. — the greatest note of triumph ever sounded in the ears of a startled universe was that sounded on the Cross of Christ— “It is finished!” (John 19:30). That is the final word in the redemption of humankind.

easter20071

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson, like a robe,
Spreads o’er His body on the tree;
Then I am dead to all the globe,
And all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
