James 2:26

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. (James 2:26 ESV)

How we live reveals what we believe.

“By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers’”

Faith is the soul of works, and works the embodiment of faith

My Father…

Loves me… John 3:16  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Cares for me… Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Forgives me… Psalm 103:12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Is compassionate... Psalm 103:4-5 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Is giving… Romans 8:32  He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Is understanding… Psalm 139:1-2 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

Is accepting… Psalm 139:1-6 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

Satisfies… Psalm 107:9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

Persistently persues me… Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

is Reason… Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

Pardons… Psalm 103:3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

Heals… Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Redeems… Job 19:25 I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

is Loving-kindness… Psalm 86:15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

Renews… Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Is Righteous… Jeremiah 9:23-24 This is what the Lord says “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.

Is Gracious… Ephesians 1:7-8  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the richesof God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,

Is Sovereign… Psalm 103:19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

The Way Home – review

A missing child. A family in crisis. A faith tested. In their darkest hour, God gives hope.

The Way Home (by Lionsgate) is based on the true story of one day that changed everything for Randy & Christal Simpkins.

Randy (Cain) is a husband and father who is struggling to balance his family responsibilities and his commitment to his job.

On March 31, 2000, Randy Simpkins came home early from the office to help his wife, Christal (Lori Beth Edgeman), pack for a vacation to the beach. Within minutes on their rural farm home, their 2-year old son (Joe) is gone.

The movie tells the story of the next 8 hours spent searching for Joe with the help of family, friends, community and rescue personnel – and Randy’s internal struggle to realign his priorities and his relationship with God and his family.

This is truly a “family movie” that I would definitely recommend to others. The Way Home is not just about finding a lost child, it is also about a man finding out what truly matters in life, his family and his faith in God.

Less Than Inspired…

Distracted and Uninspired

Yes, I have been absent from my blog and writing. I am not busy. I have been distracted.

I can’t seem to focus my thoughts clearly here lately. I look at the screen and go blank and stare off into space, don’t know why but that’s just how it has been.

I received the following in an email today. I’m sure I’ve read it before but was again touched by its message and its truth, it seemed like a good substitute for something I’ve written to be something I’ve read.

The email gives credit to Billy Graham as the author, I will assume that this is true and also credit Rev. Graham.

Billy Graham’s Prayer For Our Nation

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.

We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called itambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and  knowour hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free.

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, ‘The Rest of the Story,’ and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord’s help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called ‘One nation under God.’

Psalm 139:23-24

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – KJV

Blessed by Beth

Beth Moore

For several years now my sisters and I have attended weekly Bible studies, in the past 3 or 4 years those studies were by Beth Moore. I am so grateful to have been able to study God’s word with the help of His servant Beth. She has a sweet southern accent, forgein to us Canadians eh? She also has a gift to write, to teach, and the gift of gab. If you have never “met” Beth, I encourage you to get involved in a Bible study led by her. I’m sure you will enjoy it and learn a great deal about God and yourself.

Here is a word from Beth:

“God taught me a way to pledge my faith to Him every single day through five statements. I taught these in the Bible study Believing God, but I want to share them in this book as well (Voices of the Faithful) because they’ve meant so much to me, I believe that these five statements encompass virtually everything God calls us to believe in His Word:

  1. God is who He says He is.
  2. God can do what He says He can do.
  3. I am who God says I am.
  4. I can do all things through Christ.
  5. God’s Word is alive and active in me.

I always conclude the five statements by making a verbal commitment “I’m believing God.”

I want to challenge you to give these statements a try. Say them every single day. I can be completely overwhelmed by a challenge, and as I spit these statements out of my mouth, I can feel faith rising up in me. I have never seen God work as blatantly as I have since He challenged me to believe Him instead of just believing in Him. I’ve quit being so safe and sterile about what I ask. The primary question that precedes my request is simply this: Is it biblical? Nothing has had a greater impact on my approach to God and to daily living than raising both my sword of the Spirit (Scripture) and my shield of faith (belief).

God is still working in our generation. Faith is how we join Him.

He Ain’t the Leavin’ Kind

for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Hebrews 13:5b (King James Version)

These are hard times. There are people literally giving their house keys to the banks because they just cannot pay the mortgage. They are walking away. People are struggling with debt and loss of income. They bought a home or car based on the income that they had counted on, and are now “laid off” which is a polite way of saying “Hit the road Jack, we don’t need you anymore.” It is happening in Canada and the United States, businesses are going bankrupt or seeking bankruptcy protection and thousands of people are losing their income.

The circumstances are desperate and the people are too. They have no idea what they will do.

People who have deep faith are being put to the test. They are looking up to the heavens and asking, “Lord, what do I do?”  they are scared and possibly for the first time in their walk with God, they are learning to fully rely on God. He is there, He does care. He hasn’t walked away and turned His back.

The verse in Hebrews quoted above also quotes a passage in Deuteronomy 31:6 which says: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

God has promised that He will go with you. It is true that we will not always understand why we are going through difficult times nor do we get a “preview” for what the future holds, but we do have His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He has got it covered!

In 1Peter 5:7 we read: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” He cares for you. He will show you that He cares for you and that He will never leave you.

Please watch the video and appreciate the words of this song.
