“God is sheer mercy and grace; not easily angered, he’s rich in love. He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold, nor hold grudges forever. He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs. As high as heaven is over the earth, so strong is his love to those who fear him. And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins. As parents feel for their children, GOD feels for those who fear him.”
Psalm 103:8-13 –The Message
God is merciful!
“We learn to trust God because God treats us in a loving, accepting, trusting way before we were lovable, acceptable or trustworthy.” (paraphrase-Eugene Peterson)
The King James version says it this way:
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.”
God’s mercy is vast, boundless and immeasurable…“as high as heaven is over the earth,” “so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.” God wants to pour out His love and mercy on His children, “As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him.”
Mercy: blessing regarded as a manifestation of compassion or favor
When we repent and turn from our sins and turn to Christ, believing that He is the only one who can truly save us, God’s only Son, God’s perfect sacrifice for our sins —we are forgiven. When we are forgiven that doesn’t only mean that it’s all okay, it means that the slate has been wiped clean! God takes that sin and removes it and separates you from it. ” And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins.”
The Creator of the universe, the Almighty God, so desires a relationship with us that He provided a way for us to have fellowship with Him, by faith in Christ. How awesome it is to know that He mercifully forgives our sins and then removes them from us…as far as the east is from the west!
